From Screens to the Dance Floor: How PPOS Prom Brings Online Students Together

Stories & Spotlights
PPOS Prom

Prom night is always special, but for students at Pikes Peak Online School (PPOS), it means even more.

After months or even years of learning together online, prom is when virtual friendships become real memories. Students from all over Colorado, many meeting face to face for the first time, arrived dressed up, excited, and ready to celebrate both the night and the friendships they’ve made at PPOS.

“One of my favorite parts about online school has honestly been the friendships I’ve made along the way,” shared Mychaela Bowin, a PPOS student. “Prom makes it feel even more real because we finally get to come together in person and celebrate together.”

For PPOS students, prom is a special chance to meet classmates they see every day in Class Connects, clubs, and group chats. What starts as learning online turns into laughter, photos, and memories on the dance floor. Aiyanna Foster, a 10th grader from Colorado Springs, shared her thoughts:

“It’s super exciting and a bit nerve‑racking. Despite meeting them before, we are all busy and have long drives to see each other, so this is a great way to get the whole group together.”

All evening, students danced, laughed, took photos at the booth, and enjoyed being together in person. After learning online, this felt especially meaningful. The night was full of energy, connection, and a strong sense of belonging.

PPOS prom was more than just a dance. It showed that real friendships can start online and grow into lasting connections that go far beyond high school.
